Summary
The HVAC Journeyperson has a minimum of 5 years’ experience and holds a valid Certificate of Qualification issued by the province where the work is performed. The role involves operating facility systems, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and routine services on mechanical and other systems within company policies and trade certifications. The HVAC Journeyperson must work according to established processes, practices, and comply with environmental, health and safety, security, and fire protection requirements.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Installation & Troubleshooting
- Install air conditioning, heating, and related equipment and components.
- Overhaul and service air conditioning and heating units and systems.
- Repair, replace, and adjust worn or broken parts of HVAC equipment.
- Repair and adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with heating and air conditioning units and systems.
- Install motors, thermostats, and humidistats.
Maintenance
- Perform work according to established processes and practices.
- Comply with all internal and external requirements including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
- Respond to routine and on-demand service requests, performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Monitor and inspect facility systems to ensure uptime, safety, and asset integrity.
- Assist in implementing preventative maintenance programs, identifying deficiencies, and maintaining documentation.
- Maintain inventory of tools and equipment, arranging repairs and replacements as needed.
Client Relations
- Provide observations and recommendations regarding facility conditions and deficiencies.
- Participate in facility-related projects.
Administration
- Ensure work complies with corporate and legislative policies and guidelines.
- Maintain tools and submit expenditures timely.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- College diploma or certification required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a licensed HVAC/Refrigeration Technician.
- Strong process adherence and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of fire, life, safety, and building codes.
- Environmental, health, and safety consciousness.
- Client-service orientation and high sense of urgency.
- Effective communication skills.
- Mentoring skills for technician development.
- Willingness to work shifts, on-call, and emergency call-outs.
- Willing to wear PPE and meet security clearance requirements.
- Valid driver’s license.
Licenses and Professional Accreditation
- Valid HVAC Certificate of Qualification (e.g., 313A in Ontario).
- Minimum Gasfitter II license, G I preferred.
