Job summary

CRB seeks an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to design HVAC and mechanical utilities for buildings, performing load calculations, energy modeling, CAD/BIM work, and coordination with teams under supervision.

  • Prepare design and construction deliverables and perform fundamental calculations.
  • Conduct basic field investigations to integrate designs with existing systems.

Job Description

The Entry‑Level Mechanical Engineer focuses on the design and engineering of HVAC and mechanical utilities for buildings. Typical tasks and deliverables include load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, design reports, code evaluations, plans, schedules, installation details, equipment and system selection and specification, and coordination with manufacturers and trade partners. Tasks will also include utilizing software for building information modeling, computer‑aided drafting and engineering calculations. Project work will be under the direction of a more experienced engineer and may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration.

Responsibilities
  • Interfaces with clients and external partners
  • Design mechanical systems (airside, chilled water, condenser water, heating, hot water, steam, natural gas, compressed air, etc.) of basic complexity in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines
  • Preparation of design and construction deliverables
  • Performs envelope and load calculations, pressure drop calculations, and other engineering calculations of basic complexity as required to confirm project requirements are met
  • Conducts basic field investigations to integrate the design with existing systems and structures.
  • Works closely with other architects, engineers and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible and complete design
  • Self-checks one’s own work
  • Utilizes various platforms to execute work, such as Microsoft Office products, Bluebeam Revu, and available BIM software
  • May work on one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a supervisor
Qualifications
  • ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (with a mechanical focus)
  • 0 to 3 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
  • Fundamentals of Engineering exam registration or completion
  • LEED, WELL or other sustainable design accreditation or pursuit or, experience with sustainable design
  • Fundamental experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility and piping systems designs
  • Fundamental experience conducting field surveys of existing conditions and support of field reporting
  • Proficient with fundamental internal cross‑discipline project team coordination
