The United Church of Canada invites members interested in learning about global hunger and engaging with MPs to apply for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) Hunger on the Hill event, held in Ottawa from October 18 to 22, 2025. This intergenerational event offers an opportunity to connect with others concerned about climate change, food security, and Canada's role in addressing these issues.

Participants will learn about advocacy's role in combating hunger and climate change, engage with Foodgrains Bank staff and other Canadians, and participate in online sessions and face-to-face meetings with MPs. The program emphasizes the links between food systems, climate change, gender equality, and food insecurity.

Cost

CFGB charges a registration fee of $200 for approved applicants, covering all training, accommodations, meals, and transportation in Ottawa. If you are part of The United Church of Canada, notify us upon application; if selected, you may be eligible for additional support from the General Council Office for travel and a $100 reduction in registration fee.

Applicant Profile

  • Age 18+
  • Active engagement with The United Church of Canada (locally, regionally, or nationally)
  • Concerned about climate change and the global food system
  • Willing to speak about the experience and its impact to United Church groups

Willingness to participate in advocacy initiatives and community awareness efforts on food security issues locally and nationally.

Outcome

  • Write a 400-word summary of the experience, including 5 high-resolution photos and/or social media coverage during the event
  • Participate in speaking engagements with UCC communities of faith about the experience
  • Engage in ongoing advocacy work in collaboration with Church in Mission staff
