Who We Are: Located on the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən People, Surrounded by Cedar Child & Family Services’ (SCCFS) vision is to support the empowerment of the urban Indigenous community to continue the reclamation of traditional systems of caring for and protecting children so no child or youth will be placed into care. As an urban Delegated Indigenous Agency, SCCFS is committed to providing child and family services strongly rooted in Indigenous cultural values and world views while ensuring urban Indigenous children and youth grow up connected to family, community, and culture.

SCCFS receives its delegation through the Provincial Director of Child Welfare, who gives the agency the authority to undertake administration of parts of the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA). Under its current delegation agreement, Surrounded by Cedar administers C3 (Voluntary Services) and C4 services (Guardianship).

The Opportunity: Working for a team that values your individual contributions while supporting you to enhance your unique skills, creativity, and passion, you will have the opportunity, as the Human Resources Specialist, to:

  • Fulfill a progressive and dynamic role responsible for coordinating the agency’s Human Resources program, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Lead the agency’s recruitment, retention and hiring processes, including the onboarding and orientation of new employees.
  • Utilize your breadth of experience to support staff, supervisors, and managers to interpret agency policies, procedures and any related employment law and/or regulations.
  • Provide support and advice regarding Workplace Incident Inquiries, recommending potential solutions.
  • Support the agency in its ongoing policy review and development and lead the Joint Occupational Health & Safety program.

What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • Post-Secondary education in human resources, business administration, and/or organizational development.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a human resource related position(s).
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or training and at least five (5) years of human resource related experience will be considered.
  • Specialized training in employment law, organizational planning, organizational development, employee relations, and occupational health and safety preferred.
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community services organization, or Nation, will be considered an asset.
  • Clear criminal record check.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in the Surrounded by Cedar offices or remotely from home. Working hours are generally Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required. Occasional travel to attend meetings and events. Extensive computer work requires long hours of sitting and may cause eyestrain. Multiple shifting priorities. You may be required to occasionally lift or move equipment and boxes up to 50 pounds.
