Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager, Human Resources is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of a broad range of HR functions including but not limited to employee / labour relations, performance & attendance management, benefits, and recruitment.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the development, implementation and communication of human resource programs, policies and practices to support IMP Aerospace and Defence’s business strategies and meet organizational needs.
  • Provide guidelines and oversee management of all human resource activities including staffing / recruitment, performance management, compensation, benefits, employment equity, and employee / labour relations.
  • Work collaboratively with Managers, Supervisors and Employees in resolving complex HR related issues, providing conflict mediation and resolution when necessary.
  • Provide adequate communication and exposure to ensure employees develop and maintain an understanding of the role of Human Resources.
  • Coach, counsel, and support Managers and Supervisors on HR trends, best practices, change management, and day to day employee / labour relations issues.
  • Establish and carry out HR goals / objectives that align with overall business direction and create measurable value.
  • Provide oversight and consult on policy and program development and related Corporate Human Resources initiatives such as the Employee Engagement Survey.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with human resources staff to exchange information and provide ongoing support and problem resolution.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned, or required.

What You Will Bring

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management (undergraduate degree with concentration in HR or undergraduate degree with post grad HR specialization)
  • 7+ years’ experience in increasingly more progressive HR roles, the majority of which were within unionized environments.
  • Previous supervisory / managerial experience is preferred.
  • Must possess a hands-on approach to managing HR related matters.
  • Outstanding decision-making and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent consultation and facilitation skills combined with superior customer service skills and the ability to influence others.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of human resources practices and principles including the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights and Employment Equity legislation.
  • Demonstrated people management skills with strong business acumen.
  • Attention to detail while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Must possess strong planning and organizational skills coupled with the ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively handle stressful situations and thrive in a fast paced, diverse environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of all required Office software and HRIS Systems (JD Edwards).
  • The ideal candidate will possess or be working towards CHRP designation.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies.
  • Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 6S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances.
