Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Manager to join our client's team in Woodstock, ON. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will play a key role in driving organizational change and fostering a positive, dynamic work environment. The ideal candidate will be approachable, hands-on, and comfortable engaging with employees on the shop floor to create a collaborative culture. You will manage employee relations, including interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements (CBA), mediating disputes, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and strengthening union-management relationships. You will oversee all HR functions (including payroll) for the Woodstock and U.S sites, working closely with Executives, Managers, and Supervisors. Additionally, you will provide strategic guidance on employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, training, health & safety, policies, and overall HR practices, while promoting a positive labor relations environment and offering expert consultation on CBA, employment standards, and company policies.

Job Type: Full-time, permanent.

Job Location: Woodstock, ON.

Compensation Structure: $75,000-$100,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Shift Structure: Monday to Friday; Day Shift. 100% on-site with flexible scheduling.

Responsibilities:

  1. Understand and enforce the terms of the CBA, addressing grievances and interpreting contract language to resolve workplace disputes fairly.
  2. Build and maintain positive relationships with union representatives, actively participating in joint labor-management committees to discuss issues and negotiate solutions.
  3. Facilitate the grievance process, investigating complaints from employees and the union, mediating disputes, and reaching mutually agreeable resolutions.
  4. Manage day-to-day employee relations issues within the framework of the CBA, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee concerns.
  5. Stay updated on all applicable labor laws/employment legislation and ensure the company adheres to legal requirements.
  6. Assist management in preparing for and participating in collective bargaining negotiations with the union.
  7. Provide training to both management and employees on the CBA, union policies, and relevant labor/employment law legislation to promote understanding and compliance.
  8. Track key metrics related to employee relations, union activity, and labor costs to identify trends and inform decision-making.
  9. Provide administrative support to include:
    1. Draft employment agreements; new hire/termination paperwork, orientation, and onboarding.
    2. Maintain and update employee files; update and distribute Organizational Charts, seniority lists, announcements, correspondence, etc.
    3. Communicate effectively with Plant Supervisors and Department Managers.
    4. Provide recruiting support and leadership; internal/external job postings, scheduling interviews, etc.
    5. Benefit administration and support.
    6. Assist with company/employee meetings, training, etc.
    7. Lead/Assist with all company reporting requirements (internal, external, and corporate).
    8. Identify ongoing possible opportunities for improving efficiencies.
    9. Support Supervisors in managing performance on their teams, including performance improvement, performance consulting, and attendance management.
    10. Support employee policy management and compliance including administration, consistent application, process improvement, benchmarking, enhancements, modifications, and development & implementation as well as maintaining compliance with all applicable employment-related legislation.
    11. Implement &/or deliver programs in support of leadership development, learning, performance development, communications, and employee engagement.
    12. Work with HR support team to provide general reporting and support data requests to enable better decision making, conduct problem analysis and recommend people solutions.
    13. Investigate complaints of harassment, discrimination, workplace violence or other employment-related issues and provide recommendations to management.
    14. Perform WSIB reporting and reconciliation; manage workplace injury claims as well as the Return-to-Work Program.
    15. Annual Canadian benefit renewal and US Annual Enrolment.
    16. Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

Education:

  1. College Diploma/University degree in Business/Human Resources Management.
  2. CHRP/CHRL designation or actively pursuing.

Experience:

  1. 5-10 years of related HR leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Unionized experience would be an asset.
  3. Demonstrated strong understanding of, and experience managing and processing Payroll.
  4. Experience with ADP Dayforce or other payroll systems required.
  5. Demonstrated experience with SAP.
