About the Opportunity

Wuikinuxv Nation is looking for a full-time Human Resources Manager, for a 1-year contract role with the possibility of extension. Please note that we are a remote community in the Central Coast region of B.C., accessible by boat or plane from Port Hardy. The successful candidate will be required to be on-site for a minimum of 1 week per month.

Working with the Governance Director, you will play a key role in modernizing HR practices, developing policies and procedures that support and protect staff, and helping position Wuikinuxv Nation as an employer of choice. This is a hands-on role with broad HR generalist responsibilities, ideal for someone with experience supporting First Nations organizations or governments.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and updating key HR policies and procedures, including staff policy guides, complaint and workplace policies, and the employee handbook
  • Supporting and participating in recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Coordinating and managing employee performance and professional development systems
  • Mediating workplace issues and supporting conflict resolution
  • Managing employee benefits programs and ensuring long-term sustainability
  • Advising on and ensuring compliance with B.C. and Canada Labour Code, along with relevant employment legislation
  • Supporting organizational governance with respect to HR planning and policy
  • Providing guidance on employment-related matters to leadership and staff
  • Contributing to a respectful, inclusive, and values-aligned workplace culture
  • Supporting financial and governance functions with HR-related input and coordination
About You

To qualify, you will need a post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field, and a valid Class 5 driver’s license. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an HR generalist or HR management role will also be essential. While certification is not required, candidates working toward their CPHR designation are encouraged to apply.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Familiarity with HR practices in First Nations governments or organizations
  • Understanding of the Canada Labour Code and how it differs from provincial legislation
  • Experience developing or updating employee policies, procedures, and handbooks
  • Knowledge of employee benefits administration and performance management systems
  • Exposure to workplace mediation and conflict resolution
