Job summary

Canada’s Island Garden is seeking a collaborative HR Manager to balance strategic initiatives with hands-on execution in Charlottetown. You will shape employee programs, support growth, and lead day-to-day HR operations to create a positive employee experience.

The role involves partnering with the VP of HR, leading performance and compensation reviews, managing recruitment and onboarding, and guiding managers on HR matters. Strong confidentiality and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation (or working toward one) is considered a strong asset.
  • Several years of progressive experience in Human Resources, including demonstrated experience managing recruitment and employee relations.
  • Leadership or people management experience is an asset.
  • Experience working with an HRIS.
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Sound judgment, analytical thinking, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
  • Must have valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the VP of Human Resources to deliver short- and long-term HR initiatives aligned with business goals.
  • Lead the annual performance review and compensation review processes.
  • Support compensation and total rewards planning by reviewing market trends and recommending improvements.
  • Develop and implement HR policies, programs, and training.
  • Partner with department leaders to support employee recognition initiatives and other strategic HR projects.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, interviews, offers, and background checks.
  • Help create a welcoming and effective onboarding experience for new employees.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on a wide range of HR matters.
  • Lead employee relations investigations and recommend practical, fair resolutions.
  • Manage offboarding activities, including exit interviews and termination processes.
  • Represent CIGI at job fairs, conferences, and other external events when needed.
  • Plan and coordinate employee engagement initiatives, including company celebrations and quarterly social events.
  • Organize learning and development opportunities that support employee growth and leadership development.
  • Coordinate employee surveys and help turn feedback into meaningful action.
  • Oversee employee records and ensure HR documentation is maintained accurately.
  • Manage HRIS updates and review system transactions completed by the HR Coordinator.
  • Partner with Finance to support bi-weekly payroll preparation.
  • Prepare HR reports, analyze workforce data, manage turnover reporting, and support year-end HRIS processes.
  • Develop employee communications and maintain position profiles across the organization.
  • Provide support across the HR function whenever additional assistance is needed.
  • Assists the Vice President, HR with special requests and projects that may be outside of day-to-day responsibilities.

The Ideal Candidate Has:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation (or working toward one) is considered a strong asset.
  • Several years of progressive experience in Human Resources, including demonstrated experience managing recruitment and employee relations.

Job Details
  • Reports to: Vice President, Human Resources
  • Salary: Starts at $65,000 annually, dependent on experience
  • Status: Full-time, on‑site
  • Schedule: regularly 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, subject to change as per operational requirements
  • Benefits: Full group benefits (health, dental, vision) coverage & corporate gym memberships upon start, RRSP/DPSP matching program after 3 months of employment
