JOB OVERVIEW : The HR Generalist is responsible for meeting the business’ HR needs across multiple provinces, in accordance with BEST’s culture, mission, and values. The incumbent will assist site leadership with interpreting Collective Agreements, employee and management communications, onboarding, ensuring legislative compliance in BC, AB & ON, gathering employee feedback, and maintaining HR-related documents. The ideal candidate will have an inherent ability to understand upcoming legal changes through ongoing professional development via the CPHR Association and stay updated on political changes affecting employment standards, health & safety, and privacy laws.
JOB LOCATION : Etobicoke, ON
POSITION TYPE : Permanent (Hybrid)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Interpret collective agreements and support site leadership with labor relations inquiries;
- Administer HR programs at unionized and non-unionized sites, including compensation, leave management, discipline/performance management, disputes, investigations/grievances, rewards & recognition, and HR training & development;
- Track and document compliance with HR programs and training;
- Assist in creating and updating internal policies to ensure legal compliance with Employment Standards, Occupational Health & Safety, and Privacy laws in BC, AB, & ON;
- Manage employee feedback processes;
- Conduct HR SOP training sessions with site leadership;
- Handle employment-related inquiries from employees and site leadership, referring complex or sensitive issues to HR management;
- Create and maintain job descriptions and other HR documents as needed;
- Support the rewards and recognition program;
- Stay current with employment laws and best practices, and recommend updates to ensure ongoing compliance;
- Conduct background checks and process employee letter requests;
- Prepare reports and perform reconciliations;
- Perform other duties to support business growth.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :
- Thorough understanding of Labour Relations, Employment Standards, Occupational Health & Safety, & Privacy Laws in BC, AB, & ON;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal);
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office;
- Ability to handle a high-volume, fast-paced environment;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Ability to multitask effectively;
- Ability to build and maintain rapport with stakeholders;
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
- Previous experience in a union environment is preferred;
- HR-related post-secondary diploma or degree preferred;
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant work experience;
- CHRP designation or progress towards it is an asset;
- Acceptable security and criminal record checks.
