HR Specialist, Training & Safety Compliance

EDSS is seeking a dedicated and proactive HR Specialist to manage our employee training programs and ensure robust safety compliance across our operations. This role is crucial in fostering a knowledgeable workforce and a safe working environment for all employees.

Key Responsibilities :

HR Operations & Administration

  • Recruitment : Handle the recruitment activities, including posting job openings, screening applications, scheduling interviews, managing initial candidate communications and interviewing them along with the hiring manager.
  • Employee Record Management : Maintain accurate employee records by updating databases with new hires, terminations, leaves, transfers, training activities, and other changes.
  • Onboarding & Offboarding : Prepare and process new employee documentation (onboarding paperwork, payroll details, benefits enrollment). Coordinate employee offboarding processes, including conducting exit interviews and updating records to ensure compliance.
  • Payroll Support : Support payroll administration by verifying timesheets, tracking attendance, and coordinating with payroll staff for accurate processing.
  • Employee Inquiries : Respond to employee inquiries related to benefits, company policies, and HR procedures, fostering a positive, open line of communication.

Training & Development

  • Program Development & Implementation : Develop and implement comprehensive employee training programs, tracking attendance, feedback, and compliance with ongoing learning initiatives.
  • Training Effectiveness : Track and evaluate training effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to ensure programs meet organizational goals and employee needs.
  • Health & Safety

  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board - WSIB, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act - AODA).
  • Policy & Procedure Management : Develop, update, and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Audits & Inspections : Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of workplaces to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Incident Management : Investigate workplace accidents and incidents, prepare reports, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Regulatory Liaison : Serve as a liaison with regulatory bodies regarding safety compliance and inspections.
  • Safety Culture Promotion : Promote a strong safety culture through communication, training, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • CPHR is a must
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CRSP, NCSO) is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive relevant experience, specifically with a focus on training and / or safety compliance.
  • Solid understanding of relevant employment laws and safety regulations in Canada.
  • Proven ability to design, deliver, and evaluate training programs and other HR policies.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and learning management systems.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and willingness to travel to the different sites
