Summary Statement:
Specialized Services; focusing on Code of Business Conduct Investigations and policy creation/guidance.
Job Function:
Under the direction of the Employee Relations Manager, provide human resources leadership and services to client group(s) in accordance with corporate and/or business unit objectives and policies. Provide expertise, advice, guidance and follow-up to ensure human resources outcomes and practices related to Code of Business Conduct Investigations. Provide counselling support to client organization staff in area of expertise. Establish sound working relationships with bargaining agent representatives and facilitate constructive working relationships between them and line management.
General Accountabilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert in the specialty area of Code of Business Conduct Investigations.
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct or coordinate effective, thorough and objective investigations.
- Provide expertise to line managers and their representatives through the provision of advice and services associated with a specialist discipline. As an advisor, participate in the development of plans and programs that will contribute to their ongoing operation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential investigations files.
- Coordinate notification of findings to interested parties (e.g., Ethics, Corporate Security, Labour Relations and BHR).
- Provide ongoing support to clients to facilitate resolution of Code of Business Conduct Investigations.
- Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal/corporate ethics department as needed/required.
- Actively promote departmental services to clients in order to identify and follow up on business opportunities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibility:This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for managers and other team members.
Work Environment:This job operates in a professional office and field environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and cell phones.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
Travel:Travel is primarily limited to the regional limits during the business day, although some out-of-area and provincial travel may be expected.
Selection Criteria:Required Education and Experience:- Masters of Industrial Relations (MIR or MIRHR), JD/LLB, Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years' experience resolving complex employee relations/HR issues.
- Requires a demonstrated knowledge of Employment Standards Act, 2000, Labour Relations Act, 1995, and Human Rights Code.
- Knowledge of English to effectively communicate with various stakeholders including employees, supervisors/managers, union representatives.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully influence and advise various levels of supervisors and management, as well as external contacts.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations.
