Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the HR Business Partner acts as a trusted advisor to employees and leaders of assigned business units within TMX by providing consultation and solutions on a variety of HR related matters. Additionally, the HR Business Advisor works in close partnership with the HR Centres of Excellence (Total Rewards, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition and Employee Communications) on various initiatives relating to employee engagement, workforce planning, employee relations, talent management, succession planning, organizational redesigns, etc.
Key Accountabilities :
- Build expertise and a deep knowledge of the business areas to create and implement people plans that enable the businesses to achieve their goals and objectives in adherence to our HR policies and programs
- Support the development, delivery and deployment of HR initiatives and processes including relationship management, business-specific talent strategy, HR consulting & delivery of all programs, employee relations, employee terminations, day-to-day coaching, organizational design / job design, change management
- Act as subject matter expert and prepare and deliver presentations and materials for team meetings, town halls, workshops, board meetings, etc. as needed
- Workforce planning (org design, needs forecasting, terminations and severance)
- Ensure interests of employees and company are considered per HR policies and employment legislation
- Advise managers and employees on HR issues (performance, development, complaints, human rights, etc.)
- Manage Year-end performance cycle including calibration sessions, merit, and bonus processes for assigned portfolio
- Build expertise on TMX's HR policies, programs, and culture to respond to employee and manager inquiries via Service Now
- Recommend and execute people plans to meet strategic objectives within policies and programs
- Collaborate with external legal counsel on employment matters and partner with outplacement firms for employee terminations
- Engage with employees at all levels, including senior executives, demonstrating problem-solving and solution-oriented skills
- Work with Talent partners to address staffing gaps
- Ensure compliance with HR policies and applicable laws (e.g., ESA, Human Rights Code)
- Develop strong relationships with HR functions to balance business needs and policy adherence
Must Have Skills
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience with client relationship management skills
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Workday
- CHRP designation or post-graduate degree preferred
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to engage with senior leadership using a consultative approach
- Exceptional communication skills in English and French
- Team player with organizational skills, able to multitask and work under pressure
