Position Summary

BASE Engineering, an OPW company under the Fluid Transfer Solutions (FTS) Business Unit, is seeking a collaborative and hands-on Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) to provide full scope HR support to its Saint John, NB site. Reporting to the Director of HR, FTS, this position is responsible for delivering HR services, including but not limited to employee relations, workforce planning, HRIS administration, and talent acquisition. The ideal candidate will have a strong generalist background, a proactive approach to problem solving, and the ability to build strong partnerships across the business while upholding OPW’s core values and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Workforce Support

  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers and employees on performance management, conflict resolution, and workplace practices.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on employee relations matters to support a positive and productive work environment.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives in alignment with site and corporate culture.
  • Partner with department leadership to determine employee training needs and develop, coordinate and/or conduct training.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Lead full cycle recruitment efforts including job postings, interviewing, selection, and onboarding to ensure a positive candidate experience.
  • Partner with hiring managers to identify talent needs and build effective hiring strategies.
  • Drive the effective execution of the annual performance management and compensation planning process.
  • Assist in succession planning and workforce forecasting for site level staffing.
  • Conduct org design reviews as required to ensure the organization is right-sized and staffed with appropriate resources to deliver on business commitments.

HRIS & Administrative Excellence

  • Maintain accurate employee data and support process improvements using SuccessFactors (SAP) and other related apps.
  • Ensure HR documentation and employment records are maintained in compliance with legal requirements and company standards (Human Rights, Employment Standards, Health and Safety).
  • Track and report HR metrics (e.g., turnover, headcount, time-to-fill) as needed.

Compliance & Policy Administration

  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, company policies, and safety standards.
  • Contribute to policy updates, site audits, and HR best practices implementation.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner closely with site leadership, the FTS HR team, and OPW’s FTS business unit to ensure alignment of HR practices and business strategy.
  • Support special HR projects and initiatives as needed, including diversity and inclusion efforts and change management.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources (Diploma or Certificate required).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience; generalist or HRBP experience preferred.
  • CPHR designation is preferred.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Knowledge of New Brunswick labor laws and HR best practices is mandatory.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment is considered an asset.

  • Proficient with HRIS systems (SuccessFactors preferred), Microsoft 365 Suite, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
