Job description

The Human Resources Business Partner position reports to the Director of Human Resources for North America and is responsible for supporting the full breadth of HR functional responsibilities.

Based in Calgary, Alberta, this role will partner closely with Operations teams in several of BURNCO’s Canadian locations. The HR Business Partner will be responsible for ensuring compliance with employment laws in both Canada and the United States, as well as supporting hiring, onboarding, HRIS, employee relations, training, and union-related matters.

The ideal candidate will excel in managing multiple tasks and identifying items to prioritize. They will be adept at engaging and building strong relationships across Operations and all levels of the organization. The successful candidate will be adaptable and customer-focused, supporting initiatives that make BURNCO a great place to work.

What You Will Be Doing

General Overview

  • Partner with the Operations team to develop effective work environments, drive culture change, and improve job satisfaction
  • Act as a resource for employees and management on employee relations and labor relations issues
  • Collaborate with union representatives and manage collective bargaining agreements, grievance processes, and contract compliance
  • Administer and monitor salary/hourly wage planning and make recommendations within established plans
  • Coordinate with the HR Director and leadership on the development and modification of Human Resource policies
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, Provincial, and Local programs, as well as internal company policies
  • Conduct investigations and recommend appropriate courses of action
  • Support cross-border HR functions between Canadian and U.S. operations

TalentManagement

  • In collaboration with the Manager HR, Canada you will support Talent Management initiatives, playing a key role in the design, development and implementation of a range of strategic initiatives designed to enhance employee skill development based on the critical abilities essential for success
  • Provide direction and guidance to management in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Provide leadership and facilitate activities that will build and enhance employee engagement and retention

What We Would Like From You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or post-secondary education at college or university level, with a focus on Human Resources or Labour Relations and/or a combination of experience and education
  • 5+ years of experience in the field of Human Resources,supporting hourly employees
  • Experience supporting employees in construction or manufacturing environments strongly preferred
  • Experience working with unions and employee associations is required
  • A strong business acumen along with outstanding coaching, consulting and analytical skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Adaptable with demonstrated capability of managing multiple priorities effectively to completion
  • Capable of critical and out-of-the-box thinking
  • A collaborative team player who can work independently
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comfortable using ERP systems like Oracle Cloud, JDE, etc. and HRIS tools like UKG Pro
  • Ability to travel to various locations within Western Canada

Skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service and collaborative relationship building with Operations teams
  • Strong knowledge of HR process improvement and compliance
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and US employment and benefits programs, as well as knowledge of provincial, federal and state employment standards
