This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit residing in Iqaluit only.

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Assistant provides human resources administration support services to the department. This position provides daily upkeep, verification, tracking and processing of all leave and attendance, overtime, acting pay and lieu time administration for Headquarters staff and will assist Regional operations as required. This position maintains confidentiality regarding the substance and structure of the work undertaken and is fundamental to the strategic and operational aspects of the department.

The Human Resources Assistant provides coordination, tracking and reporting administrative support to the Manager, Human Resources. This support is required to ensure the smooth operation of the HR function within the department. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for the administration of leave and attendance for the department, preparation and submission of payroll and staffing documentation and the preparation of HR reports as necessary. Additional responsibilities include organizing meetings and conferences, scheduling appointments and assisting with the accurate and quick outflow of outgoing correspondence by making deliveries to other departments and agencies as necessary.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma or equivalent along with one (1) year of similar work experience in human resources, finance or office administration.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
