We have a full-time, regular position available for a Human Resources Manager. The HR team is dedicated to fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace true to its values. The HR team works collaboratively with one another, leadership, and staff while providing expertise in labour relations, organizational change, compliance, and leadership development, driving a people-centered approach to operational success.
The Position
The HR Manager provides both strategic and hands-on support, ensuring HR services align with business objectives and organizational priorities. This role oversees HR service delivery, advising on labour relations, workplace policies, workforce development, and organizational change. As an internal resource, the HR Manager ensures that HR strategies align with operational needs, fosters a healthy and inclusive workplace culture, and drives initiatives that enhance engagement, compliance, and leadership effectiveness—all while leading a small team and managing day-to-day responsibilities. Duties and Accountabilities
- Leads and supports labour relations, including collective bargaining, union negotiations, and workplace investigations.
- Advises leadership on employment law, labour law, HR best practices, policies, and compliance.
- Guides managers on performance management, workplace accommodations, progressive discipline, and conflict resolution.
- Develops and implements HR strategies, policies, and programs that align with organizational goals.
- Collaborates with leadership on engagement, retention, succession planning, and workforce diversity initiatives.
- Ensures compliance with employment legislation, collective agreements, HR policies, and workplace safety programs.
- Oversees HR service delivery, including recruitment, onboarding, retention, benefits, HRIS administration, and policy interpretation.
- Provides coaching and mentorship to leaders, equipping them with tools for effective people management.
- Uses HR metrics and analytics to inform workforce planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement.
- Leads the HR team in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
- Designs and evaluates equitable and competitive compensation and benefits programs.
- Identifies and mitigates systemic barriers in policies and practices in collaboration with the Equity and Belonging team.
- Builds partnerships with external organizations to enhance workforce diversity and community engagement.
- Leads initiatives for employee health, wellness, and work-life balance through innovative programs.
- Resolves complex employee relations issues with fairness, empathy, and adherence to organizational values.
Required
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Human Resources, Labour Studies, Industrial Relations, Organizational Psychology, or Commerce. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- 5 years’ experience in human resources management.
- 3 years’ experience in non-profit settings.
- 2 years’ demonstrated leadership experience.
- CPHR designation or actively working towards it.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Pension and Benefits administration experience.
- Experience developing and administering workplace safety and health programs.
- Experience developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
- Knowledgeable on relevant provincial legislation acts and regulations as well as employee and labour relations trends and issues.
- Commitment to best practices in Human Resources.
- Satisfactory criminal record check, vulnerable sector check and abuse registries.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Acceptable work record.
Preferred
- Comfortable using various software for HR metrics.
- Superior organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and work accurately with detailed information.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Functions effectively as a team member, demonstrating emotional stability and objectivity when dealing with challenging/changing work environments.
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining a keen sense of accuracy and attention to detail.
