Salary Range: $3,650 - $4,525 CAD per month

We have developed a ground-breaking medical device for the diagnosis and treatment of the most common heart rhythm disorder, atrial fibrillation – which can cause stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related complications.

Kardium’s mission is to deliver the best treatment for atrial fibrillation. To achieve this, we have developed The Globe Pulsed Field System. We have built connections with key opinion leaders who are already using the Globe System and are helping to tell our story.

As a member of the human factors team, you will gain hands-on experience in the development and commercialization of complex and leading-edge medical devices.

Please note, this opportunity is a hybrid work arrangement, located in Burnaby, BC.

Meaningful work you will be a part of

  • Conduct human factors research with end users, including physicians, healthcare professionals, and Kardium internal users
  • Investigate and identify opportunities for improving user experience with medical devices
  • Conduct formal and informal hardware and software usability testing as input to the design and development process
  • Support human factors validation testing for submissions to regulatory bodies, including the FDA
  • Develop creative design solutions to user problems and assess the usability of the prototype designs
  • Use human factors analysis techniques such as root cause analysis, qualitative analysis of participant feedback and sequence of events diagrams
  • Support use related risk analysis
  • Review human factors standards and summarise design implications and recommendations
  • There is potential for travel to support usability testing

What you bring to the team

  • Experience planning and conducting usability testing
  • Previous involvement in the design of hardware or software user interfaces
  • Used human factors techniques such as user interviews, contextual inquiry, and use related risk analysis
  • Understanding of physical or cognitive ergonomics
  • Understanding of user centered design
  • Knowledge of human factors regulations such as FDA guidance on applying human factors and usability engineering to medical devices, or IEC-62366, is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with clinical settings, in particular surgical operating rooms, is an asset
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Positive, proactive attitude and ability to execute tasks with an appropriate level of independence
  • Enthusiastic about seeking innovative solutions to unforeseen challenges
  • Demonstrated success working in a team setting
