Job Description

We have an opening for a Human Factors Engineering Analyst in our Calgary or Ottawa team. You will work with Human Factors, User Experience experts, and designers to define end user needs, advocate for those needs, and ensure usability in military systems. Your work will involve research, usability testing, and iterative user-centered design to create effective interfaces, communicated through presentations to design teams and customers.

  • Conducting Human Factors Analysis (Task Analysis, Workload, End User Analysis) from concept to implementation.
  • Applying human factors principles, standards (MIL-STDS, ANSI, ISO), and research to enhance user interface effectiveness and usability.
  • Creating and supporting innovative end-user interfaces (hardware, software, firmware) and communicating design rationale.
  • Documenting and presenting user needs and interface designs to advocate for end users within an integrated design team.
  • Reviewing equipment and system specifications for HFE requirements.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to plan research, understand users, and identify opportunities.
  • Planning and executing in-person and remote User Analysis and Usability Tests, resulting in detailed analyses and recommendations.
  • Delivering presentations to influence stakeholders and improve user outcomes.
  • Assisting in defining product requirements and understanding workflows for iterative design.
  • Developing Human Factors artefacts (workload, task analysis, personas) and influencing prototype designs.
  • Moderating workshops, interviews, and remote sessions.
  • Facilitating research through data collection, analysis, and insights to guide the team.
  • Building strong internal and external relationships.
  • Using iterative user-centered design processes to ensure usability, effectively communicated to teams and customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design, Psychology, Kinesiology, Computer Science, Systems Design, Ergonomics, or related fields with coursework in human factors / ergonomics / HCI.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Human Factors, Human Systems, HCI, UX Research, or UX Architecture.
  • Experience analyzing results and creating artefacts that illustrate user needs and design recommendations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada as a Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Preferred additional skills include :

  • Experience with agile UX or Human Factors practices.
  • Familiarity with design standards (MIL-STD 1472, ISO, ANSI).
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
