Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced HSE professional to implement and support project HSE plans, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver effective training on site in Ottawa. This role requires a solid understanding of OH&S and environmental legislation and the ability to lead inspections and improve safety plans.

You will develop emergency response, security and environmental plans, monitor contractor HSE performance, and coach HSE staff while building strong stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Holds safety designation.
  • 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry.
  • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a Government of Canada security clearance at the Reliability Status level.
  • Solid understanding of OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Previous supervisory experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Implements district HSE communication strategies on projects.
  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans.
  • Develops and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site‑specific security requirements and the environmental plan.
  • Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance.
  • Participates in on‑site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators and other employees.

  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans
  • Develops and evaluates efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site‑specific security requirements and the environmental plan
  • Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance
  • Participates in on‑site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
  • Holds safety designation
  • 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in a related industry
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role an asset
  • Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation and HSE processes
  • Conflict resolution skills, with the ability to problem-solve
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop, influence, and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminologySolid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology
  • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a Government of Canada security clearance at the Reliability Status level.
