Position Summary

The HSE Manager is responsible for fostering a Zero & Beyond safety culture by leading the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) initiatives in collaboration with facility management at Prescott, Johnstown, and Ontario. The primary goal is to ensure regulatory compliance while supporting the company’s strategic objectives.

In this role, the HSE Manager works closely with the Director of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment, Canada, as well as facility superintendents within a matrix organization. The position requires leadership in health, safety, and environmental programs to reduce workplace injuries, ensure regulatory compliance, and mitigate corporate risk. Success depends on strong collaboration with corporate functions, facility management, and external organizations.

Responsibilities
HSE Compliance & Risk Management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain facility policies and procedures to ensure compliance with HSE management systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support and hands‑on expertise in HSE matters to operations.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and prepare technical reports of findings.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with permits, environmental regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Align with behavior‑based safety programs to reinforce a Zero & Beyond safety culture.
ISO Certifications & Safety Leadership
  • Lead and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications at site.
  • Oversee and lead the HSE committee on‑site, ensuring adherence to company safety procedures through coaching, training, and follow‑ups.
  • Manage incident reporting processes, ensuring thorough investigations, corrective actions, and best practice sharing across the company.
Audits, Training & Team Engagement
  • Conduct and support internal and external HSE audits, coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections.
  • Assess HSE training needs, oversee training programs, and ensure employees are equipped with up‑to‑date safety knowledge.
  • Collaborate with management and participate in Kaizen/Gemba events, HSE team meetings, and other key corporate safety initiatives.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Accurately track and report all HSE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and company data requests.
  • Support the continuous improvement of safety processes, corporate safety mandates, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Participate in additional HSE initiatives as assigned by the HSE Director.
Knowledge And Skill Requirements
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Federal and Provincial health & safety regulations.
  • Familiarity and experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other relevant software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to engage all levels of the organization.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required.
  • Education: bachelor’s degree required (Occupational safety, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or a related field preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing environment, with expertise in:
    • Government compliance and Occupational Health & Safety regulations
    • Process risk assessment and analysis
    • Root cause investigation and incident management
    • Development of safety standards and procedures
    • ISO audits and training programs
