Reporting to the Director, HSE, the HSE Manager is responsible for implementing health and safety standards and programs. The role provides leadership and guidance to Operations in executing the safety program in the field, coaching and mentoring field HSE Specialists as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Work closely with Operations and Site Management to ensure safety initiatives are properly aligned and executed to meet or exceed site-specific safety goals.
  2. Serve as the first point of contact for customers regarding health and safety issues arising from field operations.
  3. Ensure contractual and project-specific safety requirements are met, addressing any gaps.
  4. Regularly review safety procedures for effectiveness and compliance.
  5. Oversee site audits for compliance with health and safety programs.
  6. Analyze injury data to identify needs for new or revised safety programs and implement proactive indicators to prevent injuries.
  7. Engage workforce continuously to promote safe behaviors and a positive safety culture.
  8. Support Operations in maintaining a safe work environment aligned with company policies and provincial regulations.
  9. Manage special information requests from regulatory agencies and represent the company in meetings.
  10. Evaluate safety behaviors and training effectiveness.
  11. Provide guidance on compliance with safety regulations.
  12. Participate in safety reviews and audits of projects, facilities, and equipment in collaboration with engineering and operations teams.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field; relevant certifications (CRSP, OHSC, CSC, CSP) are assets.
  • Proven leadership in managing HSE teams or programs.
  • Deep understanding of industry-specific safety regulations and standards, including regional and national compliance.
  • Experience with safety audits, inspections, and risk management.
  • Proficiency with HSE management software.
  • Experience developing and delivering HSE training programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and leadership capabilities with high ethical standards.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and facilitate programs and presentations.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel across Alberta and BC, with occasional out-of-province travel for training and meetings.
