Site Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor

Overview:

CAM Industrial Solutions, a leader in industrial services and one of the fastest-growing privately held companies in Canada and the United States, is seeking a high-impact Site Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor to join our dynamic team. At CAM, we believe “good” is never good enough. We aim for excellence in everything we do, and we’re looking for individuals who share that same drive, take pride in their work, and thrive in a collaborative, high-performance environment.

If you are passionate about continuous improvement, teamwork, and making a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply and become part of our forward-thinking organization.

The HSE Advisor provides both field and administrative support to the site team and CAM leadership to ensure compliance with safety standards, legislation, and company policies. This role requires a proactive approach to safety, fostering a strong culture of workplace safety awareness and compliance. Approximately 75% of this role will involve field responsibilities, with the remaining 25% dedicated to administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong safety culture across the site.
  • Identify and report employees unwilling to adhere to CAM’s HSE program or demonstrating unsafe behaviors.
  • Immediately report incidents and non-compliance issues to CAM supervision.
  • Mentor employees in completing Safe Plan of Action (SPA) cards effectively.
  • Provide feedback to CAM supervision regarding SPA and Safety Observation Report (SOR) participation and quality.
  • Highlight and escalate SORs that demonstrate effective incident prevention, cost-saving strategies, or high-quality workmanship.
  • Conduct safety walks and field reviews with new CAM employees.
  • Ensure new employees receive and understand required safety presentations, checklists, and onboarding materials.
  • Provide on-site support for injury management, including initiating care, scene control, witness interviews, and documentation.
  • Assist in injury management and modified work programs.
  • Perform regular audits, inspections, and safety sampling.
  • Engage with field employees to reinforce safety compliance, maintain positive morale, and promote a supportive work environment.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with CAM’s Safety Program, customer safety programs, and OHS legislation, suggesting improvements when needed.
  • Prepare and submit initial incident notifications to the Site HSE Manager and Site Manager.
  • Support all aspects of incident investigations, including gathering statements, documenting findings, and preparing reports.
  • Generate and maintain incident documentation, including investigator notes, review board presentations, safety alerts, and supporting materials.
  • Assist with Safety Evaluation Reports (SER Audits) and the Site Readiness Review (TRR).
  • Maintain a CAM HSE action register based on employee feedback to address concerns and ensure follow-ups.
  • Document significant events, conversations, and action items in a personal log.
  • Participate in site meetings as required.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of WCB Employer Reports for incidents requiring offsite medical attention, modified work, or time off due to injury.
  • Advise CAM supervision on serious incidents requiring OH&S notification, including hospital admissions, fatalities, unconscious employees, explosions, and structural failures.

Qualifications:

  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification or equivalent.
  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is an asset.
  • Minimum two years of experience in industrial worksites, preferably in a safety advisory role.
  • Strong understanding of Regional OHS or OSHA legislation and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with CAM and customer HSE programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of industrial trades, site operations, and safety hazards.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, with strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
  • Critical thinking, adaptability, and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of safety, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CAM online tools.
  • Ethical, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and team-oriented.
