Job summary

Ledcor Construction, Inc. is seeking an experienced Health & Safety professional for site-based turnarounds and industrial maintenance projects.

This role will lead safety inspections, coordinate training, and ensure adherence to Ledcor's Health & Safety Management System on site. The position requires strong communication, field leadership, and a proactive approach to risk, with flexibility to travel to multiple project sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience on turnarounds and industrial maintenance projects.
  • Hold CRSP or NCSO designation.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices in turnarounds and maintenance.
  • Ability to communicate with hourly workforce and management.
  • Proactive safety approach to identify and solve issues.
  • Experience in risk assessment, safety training, and incident investigations.
  • Ability to adapt information to audience and influence others.
  • Strong teamwork and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel proficiency.
  • Valid provincial driver’s license and driving record.
  • Pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements.
  • Good physical condition for field work and stairs.
  • Fit testing certification is an asset.
  • Familiarity with SCAT investigation tool.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of the work area and coordinate safety equipment availability.
  • Advise operations on Ledcor's Health and Safety Management System throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor regulatory compliance and coordinate with field supervisors.
  • Assist in safe work procedures, hazard assessments, safety inspections, audits, and investigations.
  • Verify compliance with leading and lagging indicators including subcontractors.
  • Conduct HS&E orientation for employees and subcontractors during onboarding.
  • Support site leadership with safety meeting materials and toolbox talks.
  • Coordinate, organize and deliver toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Develop and update Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Practice documents.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of HS&E plans.
  • Audit field hazard assessments and incident investigation reports for accuracy.
  • Assist with occupational hygiene practices and medical screening programs.

Description

You are an established Health & Safety professional with an extensive background in Turnarounds and Industrial Maintenance.

This position is site-based and the specific rotation schedule and project location will be determined based on project requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Conduct inspections of the work area and meet with field supervisors to discuss any potential problems: help to ensure the adequate supply of safety equipment, such as protective equipment, fire extinguishers, respirators, etc.
  • Advise operations regarding Ledcor's Health and Safety Management System, based on a solid understanding of program execution throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor compliance with jurisdictional regulatory requirements
  • Assists in the coordination and completion of safe work procedures, hazard assessments, safety inspections, focus audits and incident investigations
  • Verify compliance with leading and lagging indicators, including subcontractors as well as any identified corrective actions
  • Conduct the HS&E Orientation to employees and subcontractors during project onboarding.
  • Provide support to site leadership in the preparation of site-specific material for safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Support the coordination, organization and delivery of project toolbox talks and safety meetings
  • Develop and enhance Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Practice documents based on existing materials
  • Monitor and report on the overall effectiveness of the overall implementation of project HS&E plans
  • Audit the quality of the field level hazard assessments and incident investigation reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with the implementation of occupational hygiene practices and have awareness of medical screening programs
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of related work experience working on turnarounds and Industrial Maintenance projects
  • Must hold a CRSP, Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or NCSO designation
  • Has developed technical knowledge of common construction practices, techniques, and equipment within Turnarounds and Industrial Maintenance
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to the hourly workforce, while also effectively interacting with project management staff, clients, and customers
  • Ability to provide a proactive approach to safety, to include identification of operational and organizational issues, as well as develop and implement strategies to solve them
  • Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, program development, safety & health training, and accident investigation
  • Capable of adapting information/style to the audience, explaining difficult information clearly, influencing, and persuading others towards consensus agreement in straightforward situations
  • A strong team player attitude with the ability to effectively adjust to changing priorities and demands
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong computer competency including experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver’s license and driver's abstract
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements
  • Good physical condition to spend majority of time in the field and climbing stairs
  • Fit testing certification would be an asset
  • Strong understanding of SCAT investigation tool

  • Flexibility to travel to and work at various project sites will be required
