Job description

The First Nations Health Authority is a diverse and transformational health organization of professional, innovative, and dedicated team members and leaders.

The first of its kind in Canada, FNHA works as a health-and-wellness partner with BC First Nations to support self-determination and decision-making to improve health outcomes.

Contract: 4 months (Jan – April cohort)

Salary Range: Bachelors: $19.38 to $24.68 per hour. Masters: $22.44 to $28.05 per hour

Hours: 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)

Location: West Vancouver, B.C. Hybrid working is available as part of FNHA's flexible work policy.

About the role

As an Indigenous Student, you'll gain valuable experiences for your healthcare career and receive support. You'll learn about First Nations healthcare, access professional development, and have regular check-ins. Plus, we celebrate your culture at the end of the term and provide ongoing career assistance.

In the role of a student, you'll assist with HR functions in regional operations, participating in diverse HR activities and projects that support the region's plans and continuous improvement efforts.

Support the following HR tasks:

  1. Collaborate with FNHA departments and the region to advance team objectives.
  2. Participate in the development and execution of recruitment and talent acquisition plans.
  3. Provide support for the recruitment process and assist with employee onboarding.
  4. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in HR activities and processes.
  5. Contribute to initiatives focused on enhancing employee engagement.
  6. Attend necessary team and department meetings and events.

About you

Eligibility for this program requires:

  1. Reside in British Columbia during the program.
  2. Recent high school graduate, current post-secondary student, or recent post-secondary graduate, including co-op or practicum students.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  1. Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial: recruitment, new employee onboarding, employee relations, customer service, and research.
  2. Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Science, or related fields.
  3. A strong interest in HR and a willingness to learn and contribute to HR functions.
  4. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  5. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  6. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  9. Adaptability; the ability to adjust to a changing environment.
  10. Experience and knowledge of traditional ceremonies and cultural practices are assets.

The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum hourly salary based on full-time equivalent hours. Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements.
