It is a hands-on position, ideal for a professional with experience in OH&S, particularly within the construction or renewable energy industry.

We're a leader in designing and building solar and energy storage projects across Canada. We work on residential, commercial, off-grid, and on-grid projects, offering comprehensive solar and energy storage solutions tailored to diverse energy needs.

Headquartered in Victoria, BC, we operate in five provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Our mission is to deliver exceptional, sustainable energy solutions that drive positive change and move the industry forward.

About the Role:

As an HR Generalist with a focus on Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), you will play an integral role in shaping both the people and safety practices at Shift Energy Group. You will be responsible for guiding OH&S programs and initiatives that promote compliance, awareness, and a strong culture of safety, while also managing the full employee lifecycle for your client group. By combining expertise in HR with leadership in OH&S, you will help foster a safe, positive, and high-performing workplace where employees can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle for your client group, including recruitment, onboarding, development, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Partner with leaders to provide HR guidance and support aligned with organizational goals.
  • Support employee engagement, development, and retention initiatives.
  • Ensure HR policies and practices are applied consistently and effectively.
  • Act as a trusted advisor in managing workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and performance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and support HR administrative tasks such as reporting, documentation, and compliance tracking.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve OH&S programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and support its ongoing activities.
  • Oversee and deliver orientations, training, and communication on health and safety practices.
  • Track and report on annual and semi-annual safety performance metrics to ensure goals are being met.
  • Maintain and enhance OH&S policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with regulations.
  • All other duties as seen necessary for this role.
Required:
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of HR generalist experience, with at least 2 years focused on Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and workplace safety requirements in British Columbia.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining OH&S programs and compliance initiatives at a national level.
  • Experience chairing a Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with leaders and employees.
Preferred:
  • CPHR designation.
  • OH&S certifications such as CRSP (Certified Registered Safety Professional).
  • Experience leading employee orientations, safety training, and compliance initiatives.
  • Experience working in a multi-provincial organization with varying employment standards.
  • Previous experience supporting technical or high-risk industries, such as construction, renewable energy, or utilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in employee relations and conflict resolution.
