What is the opportunity?
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist is a central resource for the employees and management within CBM Ready Mix and Aggregates. This role encompasses a blend of administrative support and HR expertise, supporting various HR functions including employee and labour relations, talent acquisition, record-keeping, and policy implementation. The HR Generalist will serve as a trusted point of contact for employees and management, ensuring that HR operations run smoothly and that employees have a positive, compliant, and engaging work environment.
What will you do?
- Employee Relations and Consultation : Provide consultation to managers and employees on federal and state / provincial employment laws, ethical standards, company policies, and employee relations issues; act as a first line of support for employees, addressing concerns and questions on policies; foster a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture in alignment with company values.
- Labour Relations : Interpret the collective agreement, train managers and supervisors to understand its meaning and implications, and represent the organization during investigations and grievance meetings in dealing with the unionized labour force.
- Performance Management and Coaching : Support managers in understanding and implementing performance management practices, guide goal setting and feedback, and conduct performance evaluations; deliver training on HR processes including interviewing, onboarding, and offboarding.
- Compensation, Benefits, and HRIS Administration : Liaise with payroll and benefits teams to ensure data accuracy and address benefits inquiries; maintain employee records in the HRIS (e.g., SAP) and process status changes such as promotions and compensation adjustments; prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc reports.
- Talent Acquisition and Onboarding : Collaborate with hiring managers to support recruitment, including posting openings, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and conducting pre-employment checks; coordinate onboarding activities including new hire documentation, IT setup, and orientation.
- Succession Planning and Talent Pipeline Development : Partner with leadership to identify high-potential employees, facilitate career development discussions, and support development plans; assist in identifying successors for key roles, track progress, and align development initiatives; collaborate with managers on IDPs and performance reviews to drive growth; support talent mobility initiatives such as role rotations and cross-training.
- HR Program Support : Assist in administration and coordination of programs such as service awards, tuition reimbursement, and bereavement support; facilitate company-wide programs such as climate surveys, performance bonus payouts, and merit increases.
- Compliance and Training : Coordinate mandatory training on compliance topics (e.g., harassment prevention, labor standards, human rights); ensure policies and practices align with local legislation and proactively update them to maintain compliance.
- Administrative Support and Communication : Maintain organized filing systems; prepare and distribute communications related to HR policies and updates; coordinate company events, employee engagement activities, and other HR initiatives.
What do you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in an HR representative / Generalist or similar role, preferably within a North American corporate environment.
- Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations across the U.S. and Canada.
- Proficiency in HRIS (e.g., SAP, SuccessFactors or similar) and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and provide guidance at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Bilingual in French is preferred but not required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license

Salary Range $66,000 - $82,000
