Job description

Who we are

The Loomex Group is a Canadian-owned and operated company with a bold vision: to build North America’s leading aerospace, defence and public safety group.

From aviation and aerospace to defence, emergency response and readiness, training, and specialized services, our work supports the people and organizations responsible for keeping communities, infrastructure, and operations safe and ready.

L•Hub is our corporate services team, providing expertise in human resources, IT, document review and production, graphic design, websites, organizational and employee wellness, and more. We support The Loomex Group internally, while also bringing these services to external clients.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced HR Generalist to join L•Hub and lead the day-to-day HR needs of The Loomex Group.

This is a broad role covering recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, career development, wellness, compensation, HR systems, policies, compliance, retention, and more.

You’ll spearhead the launch of our Pathways to Success program, designed to better connect onboarding, performance, professional development, career growth, recognition, and succession planning. You’ll also play an important role in our corporate culture and employee wellness and work directly with managers and our senior leadership team (SLT), providing advice, identifying risks, and helping leaders make informed decisions.

As L•Hub continues to grow, you’ll also have opportunities to work directly with external clients, provide HR services outside The Loomex Group, and help us grow that side of the business.

This position reports to the vice-president, L•Hub and salary starts at $77,500. It is a permanent, full-time position working on a hybrid basis from our head office at the Peterborough Regional Airport.

What you’ll do

Support our people and culture

  • Manage recruitment, including job postings, interviews, candidate selection, offer management, and hiring.
  • Lead onboarding, creating a welcoming and consistent experience for new employees before they arrive and throughout their first weeks with us.
  • Be a trusted HR resource for employees and managers throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Spearhead our Pathways to Success program, supporting professional development, career growth, performance, mentorship, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Develop and support employee recognition, engagement, and retention initiatives.
  • Play an active role in our corporate culture, helping strengthen communication, connection, and a shared sense of purpose across our teams.
  • Champion employee and organizational wellness, including mental health supports, healthy work practices, and work-life balance.
  • Listen to employees, identify common themes or concerns, and bring forward practical ideas to improve the employee experience.
  • Lead clear and timely HR communication so employees and managers understand programs, policies, changes, and the information that affects them.

Advise and support our leaders

  • Provide practical HR advice to managers and SLT on employee relations, workplace issues, policies, organizational change, and other people-related decisions.
  • Identify HR, labour, compliance, and employee-related risks and clearly present the risks, options, and recommendations to SLT.
  • Build strong relationships with leaders while remaining comfortable raising concerns and providing professional HR advice.
  • Help managers navigate employee issues and continue developing their skills as people leaders.
  • Support managers and employees through organizational change, with a focus on clear communication and practical HR support.

Keep our HR function running well

  • Manage our HR systems, including JazzHR ATS, Paymate Harmony HRIS, and Sage Intacct for ERP/time tracking, and maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
  • Stay current with federal and provincial labour and employment requirements, including the Canada Labour Code, and keep leaders informed of changes that affect our people or business.
  • Create, review, and update the employee handbook, workplace policies, and HR procedures so they remain current, practical, and compliant.
  • Maintain the company salary grid and support our approach to compensation, taking into account market trends, internal needs, employee progression, and individual contributions.
  • Administer and continue to improve employee programs, including our health spending program, based on employee and organizational needs.
  • Stay current on HR tools, systems, programs, and practices and look for ways to make our HR processes simpler and more effective.
  • Support other L•Hub projects and priorities as needed.
Help us grow L•Hub

L•Hub is growing its external client base, and HR is one of the areas where we see opportunity.

You’ll have the chance to work directly with external clients on recruitment, policies, programs, processes, and other HR needs, while helping us identify new services, client relationships, and opportunities for L•Hub.

We’re not looking for a salesperson. We’re looking for someone who enjoys building relationships, recognizes opportunities, and is excited about helping grow this part of L•Hub. There may also be opportunities to earn additional incentives for bringing new clients or work into L•Hub.

What success looks like
  • Employees know and trust their HR person, and feel comfortable coming to you for support.
  • New employees get a great start, with an onboarding experience that is welcoming, organized, and consistent.
  • Pathways to Success is taking hold, with employees and managers using it to support development and growth.
  • Managers and SLT have a strong HR partner who communicates clearly, provides good advice, identifies risks, and helps work through difficult decisions.
  • Culture and wellness remain a priority, with meaningful work happening around engagement, recognition, connection, and employee well‑being.
  • Our HR foundation is strong, with systems, policies, records, compensation, compliance, recruitment, and employee programs well managed.
  • L•Hub’s external HR services are growing, and you’re helping us identify opportunities and shape what that can become.
What you’ll bring to the table
  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in human resources, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in an HR generalist or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices and federal and provincial labour and employment requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with employees, managers, senior leaders, and clients.
  • Good judgment, discretion, and a strong understanding of confidentiality and HR ethics.
  • Confidence in providing advice, presenting risks and recommendations, and navigating difficult or sensitive conversations.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and follow‑through.
  • The ability to manage everyday HR responsibilities while also moving larger projects and programs forward.
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn new systems and technology.
  • A valid G driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
It would be great if you also have
  • A CHRP or CHRL designation, or are working toward one.
  • Experience with HR systems such as JazzHR, Paymate Harmony, or Sage Intacct.
  • Experience supporting a mix of remote, hybrid, office, and operational employees.
  • Experience advising senior leadership and applying labour requirements in complex situations.
  • Experience with career development, leadership, succession, employee wellness, engagement, or recognition programs.
  • Experience providing HR services to external clients or working in a consulting environment.
  • Experience working with independent contractors, short‑term employees, or contingent workforces.
Working conditions
  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • Hybrid work arrangement, with three days per week at The Loomex Group’s head office in Peterborough.
  • Some travel may be required to support employees, clients, or other Loomex locations.
