Under the general direction of the Director, Human Resources, Operations & Real Estate Partnerships (OREP), the HR Consultant supports the operational and strategic human resources needs of clients within the portfolio. The incumbent will partner with clients to provide a wide range of HR services, advice and support. Specifically, the Consultant advises on a full range of HR issues including: employment policies, practices and procedures including employee and labour relations, workplace investigations, recruitment, job design, job evaluation and salary administration, work accommodation and attendance management, training and development, problem and conflict resolution, organizational change. The focus of the HR Consultant's work may depend on the assigned client group.
The incumbent provides guidance and interpretation with respect to collective agreements, plus employment policies and legislation such as the Employment Standards Act and Human Rights Code, provides recruitment advice and assistance to clients; responds to staff concerns, provides advice and guidance on complex organizational change and restructuring; reviews client concerns and objectives, outlines options and approaches and partners with clients to facilitate change processes; contributes to attendance and disability management as a member of a cross-functional team, maintains administrative systems including organizational charts, job descriptions, job evaluation records.
They will also work closely with the Director and the HR team to support strategic initiatives and special projects and to guide junior staff.
Essential Qualifications
EDUCATION:
University degree in a relevant discipline and course work leading to the completion of the CHRP designation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five (5) years' progressively responsible and related human resources experience. Demonstrated experience developing strategy, providing expertise and advice in relation to complex human resources matters; demonstrated experience advising clients on the interpretation, application and administration of collective agreements and employment legislation, policies, procedures and best practices. Sound knowledge of human resources best practices and employment legislation. In-depth experience in the following functional areas: recruitment and selection; job evaluation and classification; salary administration; and labour relations.
SKILLS:
Proficiency in standard computer applications (MS Office, e-mail, scheduling software, etc.); experience using HRIS or a similar system.
OTHER:
Proactive and energetic customer-service orientation with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities within tight deadlines. Superior verbal and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrated ability to identify, gather information and data, present options and partner with clients to effectively and creatively resolve complex human resource matters. Excellent judgment; strong initiative and ability to work independently. Tact, empathy and confidentiality in dealing with difficult or sensitive situations. Ability to work collaboratively as part of the OREP Human Resources team.
