Position Overview

The Housing Support Worker will assist in carrying out Housing & Support Plans under the supervision of the Housing Coordinators with potential input from geographically based Community Mental Health Program Staff, ICM, or the Cross-Cultural Program. The Housing Support Worker is responsible for rehabilitative and supportive functions including skill building/enhancement, creation and maintenance of formal and informal support networks, providing applicable accurate information and consultation with families as related to skill building/enhancement and development of supports. The Support Worker promotes personal growth through mental wellness sessions and activities and facilitates group activities and events that provide fun and engage tenants who are uninvolved.

Experience

  • A minimum of two years of related experience with people with mental health issues.
  • Experience related to group facilitation is essential.
  • Knowledge of and experience in a variety of housing models.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • University or College education in human services, other related disciplines, or high school diploma and related training.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Requires a valid driver’s license and a vehicle.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge and advanced level expertise in assessment of housing and supports needs, crisis intervention, service coordination and community consultation.
  • Able to use problem resolution skills to handle sensitive and complex issues related to multiple service involvement and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, prioritization and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive, trusting relationships with stakeholders.
  • Skills in assessing, planning, development and coordination of services related to housing and recovery.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, creativity and be an enthusiastic team member.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective networking and agency relations skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires a Light/Medium level of physical strength (i.e. 35 lbs. occasionally, 15 lbs. frequently and 6 lbs. consistently).
  • Evening and weekend work will be required.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
