Work Hours: 35 hours/week, Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Work Setting: Onsite at 650 Queen St E, Toronto, Ontario
Salary: $30.33/hr

Program Overview – Housing Operations East - Housing & Homelessness Services

The Housing & Homelessness Services Unit’s primary goal is to assist street-involved individuals and/or those with low income to find and maintain suitable housing, within an eviction prevention framework. This work aligns with WoodGreen’s commitment to community building, anti-discrimination, and harm reduction.

Responsibilities
Property Management Responsibilities:
  • Administer RGI for all tenants, including annual income reviews, notifications, and calculations.
  • Manage intake processes: background checks, lease generation, and tenant orientation.
  • Collect rent, establish payment schedules, manage arrears, and follow up on LTB Notices.
  • Coordinate with building services to maintain units and facilities.
  • Educate tenants on maintenance responsibilities and tenant agreements.
Housing Administration & Tenant Relations Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments, identify issues, and facilitate problem resolution within the housing community.
  • Encourage tenant engagement in building management and community participation.
  • Provide information on tenants’ rights and responsibilities.
  • Support development of community standards, mediate conflicts, and address grievances.
  • Offer support and referrals for tenants managing personal or interpersonal challenges.
  • Intervene in crises and mediate disputes related to tenancy.
  • Address security concerns and barriers to maintaining tenancy.
  • Support tenants to sustain housing through follow-up, case conferences, and liaising with support services.
  • Monitor tenant needs and communicate with the Manager.
  • Act as a service broker and link tenants with relevant agencies.
Community Development Programming:
  • Develop programs to foster community engagement, social interaction, and inclusivity.
  • Assess social and recreational needs of tenants.
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and implement community initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in supporting individuals with street involvement or low income.
  • Knowledge of Residential Tenancies Act, Housing Services Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Experience in property management, including lease administration, rent collection, and unit turnover.
  • Experience facilitating groups and understanding group dynamics.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with women affected by violence, addictions, or homelessness.
  • Understanding of issues faced by newcomers to Canada.
  • Knowledge of client-centered, feminist, and anti-oppressive frameworks.
  • Skills in conflict resolution, crisis intervention, de-escalation, advocacy, and negotiation.
  • Familiarity with community resources supporting low-income and trauma-affected individuals.
  • Cultural competency and effective communication with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize tasks, and organize effectively.
  • Strong assessment, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
