Homeward Trust Edmonton (HTE) is a not-for-profit organization charged with ending homelessness in Edmonton. Our efforts are guided by community needs and priorities outlined in Edmonton’s Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. We coordinate resources and efforts across agencies, neighborhoods, systems, and government to address homelessness. Position Summary

The Housing Access Representative (HAR) is the first point of contact for individuals and families facing housing instability or at risk of homelessness. The role involves providing positive, engaging interactions via phone and in person, conducting screenings, determining eligibility, creating housing plans, and connecting clients to support services. The HAR works closely with community partners and the Coordinated Access team to ensure timely and compassionate service.

Responsibilities also include administrative tasks such as updating case notes, tracking progress, resource navigation, and maintaining accurate records. The position reports to the Team Lead, Coordinated Access.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum six months experience providing positive, engaging experiences for individuals.
  • Experience in non-profit housing organizations is an asset.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and with empathy.
  • Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and able to exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and housing management systems (e.g., ETO).
  • Respect for confidentiality and participant privacy.
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures and the challenges faced by diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of social services and homelessness issues.
  • Team-oriented with effective collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the initial contact point for housing assistance inquiries.
  • Conduct screenings and determine eligibility for programs.
  • Update participants on their case status.
  • Accurately enter data into management systems.
  • Refer complex cases to senior staff.
  • Monitor and report on participant progress.
  • Provide information on programs and resources.
  • Facilitate referrals based on client needs.
  • Manage high inquiry volumes with professionalism.
Working Conditions
  • Criminal record check including vulnerable sector clearance required.
  • Willingness to travel within Edmonton.
  • Office hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
