Job description

Ability to operate appropriate mechanical equipment, such as washers, dryers, vacuum cleaners, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and Clorox 360.

Understanding of infection control principles.

Working knowledge of WHMIS, inventory management, and control.

Effective reading, writing, and communication skills in English.

Experience in an institutional setting, preferably long-term care.

Work Area: Nursing Units - Long Term Care Facility.

Hours of Work:

  • Day Shift: 0800 to 1600, paid 7.5 hours, with meal and break (30 min) at 1130 & 1430.
  • Evening Shift: 1300 to 1900, paid 5.5 hours, with break (45 min) at 1630.
  • Evening Shift: 1630 to 2230, paid 5.5 hours, with break (45 min) at 2000 to 2045.
  • Night Shift: 2230 to 0630, paid 7.5 hours, with meal and break (30 min) at 0130 & 0430.

Orientation:

  • 2 days of departmental routines and practices.
  • 2 days of general orientation covering facility policies, procedures, surge, and safety 24/7.

Key Accountabilities:

Maintaining a Clean and Safe Environment
  • Removing waste, adhering to legislative requirements (e.g., WHMIS), vacuuming, dusting, emptying wastebaskets, rearranging furniture.
  • Daily cleaning and disinfecting all resident areas, sweeping/mopping floors, spot cleaning, infection control, mixing cleaning solutions, using appropriate supplies, heavy cleaning (windows, walls), preparing rooms for new residents (deep cleaning), reporting broken equipment and repair needs.
Maintaining Stock and Supplies
  • Monitoring inventory, informing supervisor of needs, replenishing supplies.
Customer Service
  • Respecting residents' property, advocating on their behalf.
Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities
  • Performing duties in compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and company policies.
  • Following safe work practices, participating in training, using proper equipment and PPE, reporting hazards, avoiding risky conduct, and engaging in physical activities such as walking, standing, squatting, reaching, and lifting.
Privacy Accountabilities
  • Respecting confidentiality and security of healthcare and employee information, avoiding unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse, and adhering to the Code of Business Conduct and Employee Standards.
