Job summary

Extendicare in Kingston, Ontario, is seeking a part-time housekeeping assistant to support nursing and housekeeping staff, deliver supplies, and assist with cleaning, floor care, and minor repairs in various areas of the facility.

The role involves outdoor tasks in winter, adherence to safety and infection control policies, cooperation with other departments, and participation in safety and quality committees.

Responsibilities

• Mix and assist with cleaning tasks: mixing solutions, delivering supplies, removing garbage, stripping floors as required.
• Clean windows and lights; sweep and scrub areas such as laundry, dining rooms, janitor's closet, service entrance, and elevators; perform heavy housekeeping duties and small repairs.
• Perform outside tasks such as removing snow, sanding or salting as required.
• Follow department policies on quality management, safety, environment and infection control.
• Cooperate with other departments to transfer residents, move and store supplies, and relocate furniture and equipment.
• Participate in infection control, quality management and safety committee meetings as required.
• Maintain required records and information as directed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Mixing solutions for nursing and housekeeping staff, delivering supplies, removal of garbage, stripping floorsas required, cleaning windows and lights, sweeping and scrubbing areas such as janitor's closet, serviceentrance, laundry room, dining rooms, and elevators, performing heavy housekeeping duties and smallrepairs.
• Performs outside work such as removing snow, and sanding or salting as required .
• Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding quality management, safety, environment and infection control.
• Cooperates with other departments in such tasks as transferring residents, moving and storing supplies, and moving furniture and equipment.
• Participates in committee meetings such as infection control, quality management and safety, as required .
• Maintains required records and information as directed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Extensive standing and walking.
• Moving equipment.
• Considerable reaching, squatting, kneeling, crouching and climbing ladders.
• May be exposed to hazards from use of tools and power equipment.
• Exposure to biochemical substances and weather conditions.
