Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment for residents utilizing infection control principles.
  • Clean, disinfect, polish, and dust residents’ rooms, offices, and common areas, including furniture, closets, windows, walls, floors, shower and tub rooms, washrooms, reception area, and break rooms.
  • Perform routine, deep, terminal, and discharge cleaning, floor maintenance, and waste management according to schedules.
  • Dust window ledges, door frames, and closets; clean glass, countertops, tables, chairs, and disinfect all surfaces.
  • Vacuum carpets, clean washrooms, and sanitize tubs, sinks, toilets, and mirrors.
  • Wash floors with germicidal solutions, clean grout, and mop lounge and dining areas.
  • Handle laundry for residents, including personal clothing and linens, and report lost clothing.
  • Clean staff lockers, volunteer and staff rest rooms, stairwells, and manage garbage disposal.
  • Clean wheelchairs as scheduled, ensure equipment is in proper working order, and manage laundry supplies inventory.
  • Communicate with the charge nurse about special linen or clothing needs.
  • Check supply levels and equipment functionality daily, and perform duties professionally within a multidisciplinary team.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of common cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions in English.
  • Physical stamina for cleaning tasks.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
  • Experience in housekeeping within long-term care or elderly care is an asset.
