Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment for residents, following infection control principles.
  • Clean, disinfect, polish, and dust residents’ rooms, offices, and common areas, including furniture, closets, windows, walls, floors, shower and tub rooms, washrooms, reception area, and break rooms.
  • Perform routine, deep, terminal, and discharge cleaning, floor maintenance, and waste management according to schedules.
  • Dust window ledges, door frames, and closets.
  • Perform daily and monthly cleaning of glass as needed.
  • Clean countertops, tables, chairs, and disinfect all soils and spills.
  • Vacuum carpets as required.
  • Clean all washrooms in the facility.
  • Disinfect and polish tubs, sinks, taps, toilets, and mirrors.
  • Wash floors with germicidal solutions; clean grout regularly.
  • Dust and mop lounge areas daily; sweep and mop dining room floors after meals.
  • Handle laundry for residents, including personal clothing and linens.
  • Follow up on reports of lost clothing and take appropriate action.
  • Clean staff lockers, volunteer, and staff rest rooms.
  • Sweep and wash stairwells weekly.
  • Empty garbage, change liners, and maintain cleanliness in waste areas.
  • Clean wheelchairs as scheduled.
  • Follow procedures for cleaning and caring for equipment.
  • Manage inventory and control of laundry supplies and products.
  • Communicate with the charge nurse regarding special linen or clothing needs.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are in proper order before starting routines.
  • Perform duties professionally within a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, fire safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Participate in meetings and in-service education.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of common cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions in English.
  • Physical stamina for cleaning tasks.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
  • Experience in housekeeping in long-term care or elderly care is an asset.
