Responsibilities
  1. Maintain a clean, safe environment for residents utilizing infection control principles.
  2. Clean, disinfect, polish, and dust residents’ rooms, offices, and common areas, including furniture, closets, windows, walls, floors, shower and tub rooms, washrooms, reception area, and break rooms.
  3. Perform routine, deep, terminal, and discharge cleaning, floor maintenance, and waste management according to schedules.
  4. Dust window ledges, door frames, and closets; clean glass, countertops, tables, chairs, and all soils/spills.
  5. Vacuum carpets, clean washrooms, disinfect and polish fixtures, wash floors with germicidal solutions, and mop lounge and dining areas daily.
  6. Handle laundry for residents, including personal clothing and linens, and manage reports of lost clothing.
  7. Clean staff lockers and rest rooms, sweep stairwells weekly, and empty garbage with liners.
  8. Clean wheelchairs and maintain cleaning equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  9. Communicate with the charge nurse regarding linen or clothing needs.
  10. Ensure supplies and equipment are in order before starting daily routines.
  11. Perform duties professionally within a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions in English.
  • Physical stamina for cleaning tasks.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
  • Experience in long-term care or with the elderly is an asset.
Additional Information
  • Adheres to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Participates in meetings and in-service education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
