THE SALVATION ARMY

HAMILTON BOOTH CENTRE - 94 York Blvd, Hamilton

Job Title: HOUSEKEEPER - CASUAL

OBJECTIVE:

In compliance with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army Booth Centre, to minister to those in need and other persons affected by homelessness by practical assistance through a demonstration of Christian love and concern. Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Housekeeper will maintain the Booth Centre at a high standard of cleanliness and safety while interacting positively with residents/clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must agree with and uphold the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army Booth Centre, Hamilton.
  • Experience in housekeeping/janitorial services through education or life experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and materials.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Current First Aid and CPR, non-violent Crisis Intervention, and WHMIS certificates.
  • Ability to work independently and under supervision.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Candidates must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening.

REPORTING TO:

  • Facilities Manager (Direct)
  • Director of Business and Operations (Indirect)
  • Executive Director (Indirect)

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties vary depending on shift.

  • Ensure debris and snow are removed from entrances and walkways (sweep, wash, shovel, salt) if assigned.

Maintain interior of the building by:

  • Removing garbage and recycling.
  • Cleaning and stocking bathrooms.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors, washing walls as needed.
  • Cleaning stairs, ramps, elevator, TV rooms, offices, windows, and spills.

Be courteous and respectful to residents (DO NOT FRATERNIZE). Other housekeeping duties as assigned. Assist in emergency responses as needed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Know and suggest improvements for the Centre’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Attend supervision, meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Model professionalism, self-motivation, punctuality, personal hygiene. Sign confidentiality agreement.
  • Respect the religious and moral values of The Salvation Army. Represent the organization professionally.

Compensation:
