Job summary

Northwood in Halifax is hiring a Housekeeper to support our environmental services team in a not-for-profit continuing care setting. You will perform cleaning, laundry, and related duties to maintain a safe, comfortable environment for residents and staff.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade X or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend and follow written instructions.
• Physical ability to lift, push and move heavy equipment (50lbs).
• Regular and consistent attendance as per Northwood standard.
• Minimum 2 years housekeeping experience in Long Term Care or Acute Care.
• Experience with floor stripping, WHMIS, carpet care and floor refinishing.
• Laundry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning in assigned areas and maintain cleanliness.
• Transport garbage and recycling with push/pull of large carts.
• Carry out periodic floor and carpet maintenance per procedures.
• Operate washers and dryers according to manufacturer instructions.
• Assist with laundry duties including folding and distribution of linen.
• Maintain equipment and work area in good order.
• Follow safe chemical handling and PPE guidelines.
• Complete special cleaning projects and set-ups as directed.
• Help with office moves and furniture relocation as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Housekeeper to join our Halifax team!

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services the Housekeeper performs cleaning duties while helping to support and provide a safe working environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of Grade X or equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write, comprehend and follow through on specific instructions.
• Ability to lift, pull, push and move heavy equipment and heavy furniture on a regular daily basis (50lbs).
• Good personal hygiene.
• Previous laundry experience.
• Must have regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood corporate standard.
• Ability to work well with others including: co-workers, supervisors and residents.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the housekeeping field in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment.
• Must have knowledge of floor stripping, WHMIS, carpet care, and refinishing floors.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas.
• Collect and transport garbage, recycling with the ability to push/pull large carts.
• Performs periodic floor and carpet maintenance in accordance with established procedures and prescribed techniques.
• Operates washers and dryers adhering to established formulas and manufacturer’s instructions.
• Assists, as necessary, in other laundry duties such as folding, untangling, pressing, packages, and the distribution of clean linen/laundry.
• Cleans and maintains washing and drying equipment for use in linen/laundry including the linen and laundry rooms.
• Follows safe work practices for chemical use including proper labeling, storage and use. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used as recommended on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Maintains cleanliness, orderliness and general repair of equipment and work area.
• Completes project/special cleaning, in areas as assigned by the supervisor.
• Complete specific set-ups for special functions.
• Completes office moves - transporting of desks, cabinets and other furniture from one area to another as requested by supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.

12 Hours Biweekly (6 Hour shifts)
