Job description

The Housekeeper reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is expected to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the home by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in assigned work areas following established policies and procedures. A major part of the role of a housekeeper will be to actively involve residents in everyday domestic living, creating meaningful occupation and activities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Receives assignment, assembles required materials and supplies, loads service cart and transports to work area.
  2. Using specified cleaning/disinfecting/sanitizing agents and following specific procedures, work patterns and routines, performs tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, sanitizing/disinfecting floors, spot cleaning walls, windows and doors between washing, dusting, washing, sanitizing/disinfecting furniture, shelves, woodwork, etc., emptying waste baskets and rearranging furniture, removing waste, daily cleaning and disinfecting all bathroom fixtures and replenishing supplies, cleaning floors, fixtures and furnishings in utility rooms, kitchen closets, etc.
  3. Ensures the privacy of residents during performance of duties.
  4. Respects privacy, dignity and promotes confidentiality within a warm, homely setting.
  5. Prepares room for new occupants following prescribed procedures.
  6. Notifies Manager when supplies are low, or equipment is malfunctioning.
  7. Returns unused supplies and cleans and stores equipment.
  8. Identifies potential liability issues and takes action to minimize risk.
  9. Other duties as assigned and or indicated in the Job Task Inventory.

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  1. Some understanding of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning.
  2. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  3. Ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions.
  4. Ability to work from the heart and make others smile.
  5. Ability to make the most of the time you have to provide positive social interactions.
  6. To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  7. To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
  8. Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
  9. As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements.
  10. Two supervisory references required.

Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
