Job summary

North Bay Indigenous Hub – Giiwedno Mshkikiiwgamig in North Bay, ON, is seeking a permanent part-time Housekeeper with benefits to support childcare and medical center spaces. The role covers classrooms, bathrooms, exam rooms and common areas, with routine cleaning and safety compliance.

The position requires Grade 12 or equivalent, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, and a valid driver’s license. Experience in custodial work is preferred, and a Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Experience using computers, e.g., regular email correspondence.
  • Previous custodial and grounds experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods, supplies and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean orderly childcare and medical center including classrooms, bathrooms, exam rooms, offices and common areas.
  • Disinfect high touch surfaces throughout the building multiple times a day.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities and daily cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming).
  • Collect and dispose of trash; use heavy-duty cleaning equipment.
  • Adhere to WHMIS storage, labeling and usage guidelines; routine landscaping of outdoor spaces.

One Permanent Part-Time Position w/Benefits

Location: All locations as per schedule

Salary Range: $23.77 to $26.25 hourly (up to 22.5 hours per week)

The North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH) requires a permanent, part- time Housekeeper.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Must have valid First Aid & CPR, as well as WHMIS training or be willing to obtain
  • Experience using computers i.e. regular email correspondence
  • Previous custodial and grounds experience preferred
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures, supplies and tools
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check)
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and access to own reliable vehicle
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision within a team environment
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisor
  • Knowledge and experience with standard institutional cleaning techniques
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Demonstrated experience as a professional cleaner in healthcare, childcare or office settings
  • Must tend to head and satellite locations as per schedule
  • Knowledge of a safety culture in a health and childcare setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job - health and physical condition consistent with repetitive movement including heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, walking and standing
  • Knowledge of WHMIS legislation
  • Knowledge of infection control
DUTIES INCLUDE:
  • Maintain a clean orderly childcare and medical center including classrooms, bathrooms, exam rooms, offices and common areas.

  • Daily cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors
  • Collection and disposing of trash
  • Use of heavy-duty cleaning equipment, such as floor buffers and commercial vacuums
  • Adhering to WHIMIS storage, labeling and usage guidelines for all cleaning products
  • Routine landscaping of childcare outdoor space and traditional grounds
  • To adhere to established NBIH policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices
  • To prepare reporting documentation as required according to NBIH policy
  • To attend in-service training as required in order to better serve the needs of the NBIH
  • To attend staff meetings as required
  • To work in a position of trust with vulnerable people
  • To uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in NBIH’s Code of Conduct
  • To maintain inventory of cleaning supplies
  • To maintain WHMIS standards and practices
  • To develop and maintain a vendor resource list for contracted workers in the community
  • Other duties as required

  • Provide a current or recent Criminal Police Check with Vulnerable Sector.
