Job summary

L'Arche Antigonish is seeking two House Leaders to supervise daily life in the home for adults with intellectual disabilities. One position is permanent and the other covers a parental leave for 12-18 months.

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada. You will lead the house team, oversee Core Members’ well-being, and supervise employees and volunteers to ensure safety, dignity, and inclusion in all activities.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent is required.
• Nova Scotia Class 5 Driver’s license and driving experience is required.
• 2 years of experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities or in a related field.
• Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
• Diploma in Community Support Work or related field is an asset.
• Supervisory experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support for Core Members in daily living, health, safety, and advocacy.
• Oversee well-being and growth of Core Members through regular reviews of support plans.
• Communicate with guardians, professionals, day programs, etc.
• Orient and train new Assistants and supervise staff with regular feedback.
• Schedule Assistants, manage leave of absence requests, and maintain records.

L'Arche Antigonish is looking to welcome two House Leader's - one in a permanent capacity, and one to cover a parental leave for 12-18 months. Applicants must legally be able to work in Canada.

Position Overview

Guided by the mission and values of L'Arche, the House Leader oversees the day-to-day life of the home. They lead the house team to nurture the well-being and growth of each person with an intellectual disability (Core Members) in the home. They support and supervise employees and volunteers in the home (Assistants).

Key Responsibilities / Expected Tasks:

Core Member Support

• Provide direct support for Core Members in all aspects of their life, including relationship & atmosphere, individual support planning & documentation, health & safety, personal care & daily living, and community access & advocacy.


• Oversee the well-being and growth of Core Members, including regular reviews of individual support plans and behavioral support plans.


• Oversee communication with guardians, professionals, day programs, etc.

Leadership & Supervision of Team

• Give orientation and training to new Assistants.


• Supervise and nurture the growth of Assistants with regular feedback, roles & goals meetings, performance reviews, and circles of learning.


• Participate in the leadership of the community in the key leaders and team leaders groups.

Administrative

• Schedule Assistants, book relief/casual assistants, approve timecards and leave of absence requests.


• Review and keep various records up to date, including files for Core Members, supervision records, house files, house routines, house expenses, schedules, incident reports, log notes, etc.


• Ensure accreditation and licensing standards are followed.


• Oversee all other administrative aspects of the home.

Working Conditions

• A flexible schedule is required to support the home as needed, e.g., relief/casual booking, filling in scheduling gaps, urgent needs, etc.
