ABOUT VEG

In 2014, VEG was born with a mission to help people and their pets when they need it most. This meant challenging the status quo and fixing everything that was wrong with the ER experience. Since then, we've expanded rapidly, with hospitals nationwide open 24 / 7, 365 days a year, and created a better emergency experience—not only for people and their pets, but also for everyone who works here—our VEGgies!

At VEG we find a way to say yes to the career you want in veterinary emergency medicine. This means transforming how ER works, from our open-concept hospitals, where you can handle emergency cases of every kind (even exotics!) to our immersive, customer-focused experience, which helps us give people and their pets the care they deserve.

This also means saying yes to creating the best experience possible for our VEGgies. Yes to working in an environment where you can find your place and feel valued for the amazing work you do. Yes to having unparalleled opportunities for learning and mentorship so you can grow where you want to go in your career. And yes to making an impact here in ways you never thought possible.

THE JOB

As a hospital manager, you'll lead your people and operate your hospital the VEG Way, with a strong sense of ownership and the freedom to shape environments that are constantly on the frontlines of change. You'll be a constant presence in your hospitals, advancing culture, engagement, efficiency, growth, and financial health by finding ways to say yes to your VEGgies—equipping them with the tools, support, education, and autonomy they need to thrive. Using the VEG framework to guide your decisions, you'll ensure your hospital performs at the highest level, while fostering an inclusive workplace where VEGgies feel they belong, take pride in their roles, and invite friends to join. You'll also build collaborative, mutually rewarding partnerships with referring vets and local businesses, making VEG the go-to for emergency pet care in your community.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Actively recruit, hire, onboard and continuously develop the right people for VEG and your hospital
  • Ensure your hospital delivers a mind-blowing experience for patients, customers, and VEGgies at your hospital
  • Ensure your hospital is compliant, well-maintained, and operationally sound
  • Drive performance at your hospital, making it a high-revenue, high-margin business that challenges the status quo and achieves financial targets
  • Help grow VEG's reputation locally throughout the industry, the community, online, and in the media

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Leadership experience, including managing and scheduling teams of 50+, recruiting, training, facilitating developmental meetings, performance management, and building effective teams
  • Financial management experience, including full P&L oversight, which includes budgeting, payroll, and accounts receivable.
  • Operations management experience, including inventory and facility management.
  • Emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and a desire to be coached and develop personally.
  • Ability to be consistently available, accessible, and approachable in your hospital; this is not a remote position
  • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor, as well as the ability to lift up to 25 kg on own and able to support up to 40 kg with assistance.
  • Must be willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odours.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating or as needed basis based on hospital demands.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with people from all backgrounds and different personality types.
  • HOW WE INVEST IN YOU

  • Competitive Compensation, plus a potential for an additional bonus and RRSP Matching Program
  • Depending on your role, you may be eligible for a transaction bonus after one year of full-time, active employment with VEG, so you can share in our growth and success
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits, including Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid parental leave, up to 10 weeks of top-up to 100% of regular salary
  • Unlimited PTO to use for vacation or sick days - however you need it!
  • Generous referral rewards, so our awesome people can bring in more awesome people
  • And the little (big) things, like casual office attire, ability to bring your fur baby to work, cool VEG swag, food in the fridge for when you're hungry and free lunches twice a week!!
  • At VEG, diversity is not just a word—it's a strength that fuels innovation and compassion. Our mission is "Helping people and their pets when they need it most." And we do that better when our VEGgies (employees) feel valued, respected, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. That's why we're dedicated to creating an environment that reflects the diverse communities we serve—where different perspectives are not only welcomed but celebrated.

We are committed to providing equitable opportunities for growth, promoting inclusive decision-making, and ensuring that every voice is heard. Saying yes to VEG means helping us build a culture where your unique experiences and background contribute to a shared vision : being the world's veterinary emergency company.

VEG is committed to providing employment opportunities in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code. We aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all job applicants. If you require accommodation any time during the application process, assessment, or interview process, please advise us and we will work with you to meet your needs.
