Position Summary:

The position of Resident Care Manager, Dulcina Hospice, will commit to incorporate our Mission, Vision, and our Values, which are Compassion, Collaboration, Respect, Social Justice, Integrity, and Stewardship, and uphold our ethical traditions as foundational aspects in all actions and decision-making.

The Resident Care Manager, reporting to the Site Administrator, is accountable for the overall management and direction of continuing care services. The Resident Care Manager collaborates with other members of the management and interdisciplinary team in order to plan, implement, and evaluate resident care.

This position is responsible for ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures. Provides support to residents, their family, and visitors during the resident’s end-of-life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect, and individuality.

Responsibilities:

The Resident Care Manager of Dulcina Hospice is accountable for the overall management and direction of continuing care services of the 26-bed hospice. The Resident Care Manager collaborates with other members of the management and interdisciplinary team in order to plan, implement, and evaluate resident care in a hospice setting.

This position requires the following:

  • Ability to coordinate the development of innovative care programs in order to meet the unique and holistic needs of residents
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide leadership and build relationships within teams
  • Management experience with recruitment, retention, coaching, mentoring, and performance development in a unionized environment
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to remain objective in decision-making with a focus on caring for the whole person – body, mind, and soul
  • Commitment to safe, effective, and ethical resident care and work practices
  • Ability to respond appropriately within a stressful environment
  • Proven reliability and accountability
  • Participates in the On-Call Rotation as applicable
  • Have an understanding and working knowledge of Service Contracts, Continuing Care Health Service Standards, and Accreditation Standards
  • Thorough working knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Office
  • Direct supervision of care staff
  • The Resident Care Manager provides clinical on-call support

Qualifications:

  • Registered with CARNA (College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta)
  • Masters Degree in Nursing or related field preferred
  • Certification in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing (i.e., CHPCN from Canadian Nurses Association) or willingness to pursue
  • Three to Five (3-5) years of middle or senior management experience in a unionized health care environment, preferably in continuing care services, is required
  • Hospice experience required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Good understanding of current best practices in palliative and hospice care and ability to integrate them into daily care.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

All employees new to Covenant Care must provide a criminal record check not older than 90 days ahead of your commencement date. Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Person Screening processing is taking much longer than typical (3 to 4 weeks) and that commencing the process in advance is advisable.
