Job description

The Horticulturist will oversee all landscaped areas of private homes and some
commercial space. They will be able to provide guidance to the landscape team, and
recommendations to the owners on plants, flowers, grass and trees. This includes
mulching, weeding, spot spraying, watering, pruning, planting, and fertilizing, as well as
creating and following a pest management program. This is a hands-on position.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee training of seasonal employees on mulching, weeding, spot spraying, watering, pruning, planting, and fertilizing
  • Oversee training of assistant horticulturist
  • Maintain indoor live wall
  • Create and maintain an ongoing maintenance program, keeping a weed-free appearance in all garden beds
  • Monitor health of all plant and tree cultivars
  • Manage the vegetable garden program, keeping sound documentation on inputs and outputs
  • Maintain, monitor, and protect streamside enhancement areas throughout the golf course
  • Assist the Superintendent with the upkeep of our Audubon Certification Program
  • Provide ongoing feedback to the Superintendent on all plant health issues, and team member performances

Requirements

  • Diploma in horticulture preferred or 5 years experience in landscaping and horticulture
  • Knowledge or soil fertility, water use management, plant health, pest control methods, and plant materials
  • Strong familiarity in plant selection and preferred growing environments
  • Interest in proper water use management
  • Understanding of plant health and pest control methods
  • Strong familiarity in plant materials and preferred growing environments
  • Proficient staff and time management skills
  • Passion towards creating a cohesive team atmosphere
