Horizontal Directional Driller - Telecom Construction

Description

You are a Horizontal Directional Driller in the telecommunication industry with experience supporting utility maintenance and construction. Your responsibilities include operating drilling equipment to install underground telecommunication cables and conduits. As a Horizontal Directional Driller, you will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and team members to meet deadlines, ensure safety, and maintain industry standards, ensuring precise and efficient infrastructure placement.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Perform box locating, directional drilling, and installation of conduits for various cables, pedestals, concrete bases, vaults, and enclosures.
2. Safely operate directional drilling equipment and locating tools.
3. Coordinate drilling activities with other site activities, load movements, and respond to hand or audio signals from team members.
4. Follow policies, CVOR guidelines, and prioritize health and safety at all times.
5. Complete all required paperwork daily.
6. Handle and distribute construction materials, load and unload supplies and equipment, and remove debris from work sites.

Qualifications:

1. Previous experience with directional drilling/locating (Vermeer series drills).
2. Experience with Falcon F2 & F5 locating systems.
3. Experience in telecommunications is an asset.
4. Ability to read locates and identify discrepancies in the field.
5. Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s license with a clean driver abstract.
6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Work Conditions:

1. Travel across Alberta is required.
2. Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
3. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), working at heights, in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions.
4. Preference will be given to applicants residing in the Calgary area due to project location.
