Job summary

Canadian Red Cross is seeking a Homelessness Intervention Advisor to plan, coordinate, and deliver frontline support for people experiencing homelessness at warming centres in Montreal. The role includes on-call shifts to support colleagues on the ground.

You will act as a subject matter expert, mentor teammates, and help maintain safe, welcoming centres while coordinating with community partners and resources. This is a part-time, in-person position in Montreal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social work, delinquency intervention, criminology, psychology or related field.
• Excellent knowledge of homelessness, mental health, protection, inclusion, addictions and social exclusion.
• Ability to stay calm and use sound judgment in fast-paced, stressful environment.
• CPR and first aid training are assets.
• Excellent spoken and written French; English or other languages are assets.
• Initiative, autonomy, teamwork and adaptability.
• Ability to work independently during night shifts while staying alert.
• Availability to work nights, some weekends and on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Act as a subject matter expert on frontline work with people experiencing homelessness, including protection and inclusion, to support the Operations team.
• Help team members assess complex situations and coach them in intervention skills.
• Advise coordinators on best practices and monitor quality of interventions.
• Keep intervention protocols current for overnight warming centre contexts.
• Respond to crises using intervention, de-escalation and conflict management techniques.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming environment including light cleaning of common areas.
• Support well-being and provide a steady, reassuring presence in common areas.
• Onboard new team members.
• Provide referrals to appropriate resources.
• Maintain strong relationships with community partners for coordinated response.
• Develop, update and share a directory of resources and services for warming centre guests.
• Apply protocols for poisoning (including naloxone) and psychosocial crises.
• Identify distress signals and escalate to appropriate resources including emergency services.
• Participate in meetings, training sessions, and reflections on practices.
• Promote and uphold the warming centre code of conduct.
• Review incident and intervention reports to identify recurring issues and opportunities.
