Job summary

Qualifications

  • Prefer 2-3 years related home support experience within the past 5 years.
  • Experience working within indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Registered with the BC Care Aid and Community Health Worker Registry required.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Home Support Worker is responsible for the in-home care and support of the Elders, sick, and disabled persons of Westbank First Nation.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Prefer 2 – 3 years related home support experience within the past 5 years
  • Experience working within indigenous communities and families is considered and asset
  • An equivalent combination of education & experience may be considered

REQUIREMENTS

  • Home Support / Resident Care Attendant Certificate required
  • Registered with the BC Care Aid and Community Health Worker Registry required
  • Valid First Aid and Food Safe Certification
  • Acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, acceptable driver’s abstract, and personal vehicle with adequate liability insurance
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and Home Care.
  • JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Provides personal, non-nursing care to clients as directed in the clients’ individualized care plan
  • Assists clients with the preparation of meals, as required, and provides a safe, clean environment in the home
  • Supervises, monitors, and reminds clients of daily activities including taking medications
  • Observes clients for general mental and physical conditions and reports any changes to the Community Home Care Manager
  • Completes the appropriate records regarding activity while in the client’s home
  • Provides transportation for shopping or medical appointments as directed
  • Attends regular staff, in-service, and development meetings as directed
  • Assists with clerical duties, including maintenance of client charts, preparation of correspondence and documents, as required
  • Performs other duties as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Community Home Care Manager
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Community Care Nurse
