  • Ensure meals are nutritious and accommodate special diets.
  • Inform supervisor of client activities or changes in the care plan and complete required forms.
  • Complete records and time-keeping protocols accurately and timely as per VHA policy.
  • Support safe client care through ongoing knowledge and skills development.

Pay Range $17.82- $20.41 (placement on salary range as per Collective Agreement)

VHA's Home Support Worker Role

VHA's Home Support Worker is responsible for providing practical household assistance, socialization, and emotional support to diverse client groups, including adults and children, to maintain the activities of daily living in the home. This may include cleaning, meal preparation, laundry, shopping and banking. Household and support activities are performed in such a manner as to encourage independence of the client and the prevention or delay of institutionalization. All activities are conducted within the policies, procedures and standards of confidentiality of VHA.

Key Areas of Accountability
  • Provides homemaking and support to clients who are ill and unable to carry out normal household routines, or activities of daily living in their homes, including cleaning, laundry, child care, etc.
  • Acompannies clients on walks, shopping, attending appotinments, providing companionship and encouraging client toward independence.
  • Ensures that meals are nutritious and takes into consideration special diets.
  • Informs supervisor of client activities, problems or changes in client care plan and compiles appropriate forms if required.
  • Completes records and time keeping protocols ensuring accuracy and timely submission in accordance with VHA policy.
  • Supports safe client care through the development of knowledge and skills in accordance with our principles of continuous quality improvement.
Required Qualifications
  • 3 years’ experience in providing homemaking and personal support services, including care of seniors and children.
  • Experience working in the community is an asset.
  • Must be flexible and able to support a diverse client group.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English (equivalent to grade 10 level).
  • Demonstrated commitment to client and family centred care.
  • Physically able to provide safe and timely client care.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize safety issues, communicate effectively and provide minor problem solving.
