Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management is seeking a Casual Home Support Worker for the Comox Valley / Casa Loma Seniors Village. Shifts: 4:00pm–9:00pm and 7:00pm–12:00am.

You will provide holistic personal care under the Assisted Living program, reporting to the Clinical Manager. Responsibilities include assisting with meals, bathing, medication support, responding to call bells, and supporting activities while ensuring safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
• Active registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
• Current First Aid Level 1 and CPR.
• Medication Administration Certification required.
• Previous experience in a care community preferred.

Responsibilities

• Be an engaged collaborative team player and maintain professional relationships.
• Follow established personal service plans.
• Provide personal care (medication assistance, bathing, grooming, dressing, meals, oral hygiene).
• Respond to call bells and monitor residents.
• Observe progress and report significant observations.
• Involve residents in maintaining their home environment per their wishes.
• Encourage participation in social, physical, spiritual, and recreational activities.
• Stay updated on policies, procedures, and safety practices.
• Attend community and education programs.
• Night shifts include housekeeping duties per routine.
• Perform other related duties as required.

About The Role

The Home Support Worker (HSW) reports to the Assisted Living Clinical Manager and/or designate and provides person served holistic and quality care. The HSW at our communities is an integral member of the team, performing their role in accordance with established policies and procedures, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

• Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
• Follows established personal service plans.
• Provides personal care for our residents from admission or transfer including; medication assistance, bathing, grooming, dressing, assists with meals, oral hygiene and performing other care duties as applicable.
• Responds to call bell alarms.
• Observes and monitors residents progress, symptoms and behavioral changes including unscheduled care requests and reports significant observations.
• Involves the resident in organizing and maintaining their home environment, ensuring it is done according to the residents’ wishes and needs.
• Encourages and assists residents to participate in social, physical, spiritual and recreational activities.
• Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of community policies and procedures, particularly those concerning emergency procedures including equipment management, guidance and assistance on safe work practices.
• Attends and participates in community and education programs.
• Night shift will include housekeeping duties as per the night routine.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications And Skills

• Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
• An active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
• Valid First Aid Level 1 certification and current CPR.
• Medication Administration Certification required.
• Previous experience in a care community preferred.
• Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
• All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
• Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
