The Histotechnologist position involves processing specimens received in the Histology laboratory with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include selecting appropriate methodologies for tissue processing, preparing and staining surgical pathology specimens, and ensuring accurate labeling and tracking of samples for diagnostic purposes. The role emphasizes independent judgment, adherence to laboratory policies, and maintaining laboratory standards and safety protocols.

Key duties include:

  1. Handling and processing tissue specimens according to priority and protocol.
  2. Performing routine and complex staining techniques, including H&E, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.
  3. Managing data entry and specimen tracking within the laboratory information system (LIS).
  4. Maintaining equipment, preparing solutions, and ensuring quality control.
  5. Assisting with laboratory accreditation standards and maintaining archived slides and blocks.
  6. Ensuring safety practices and proper waste disposal.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to patient care and laboratory excellence. They should have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, relevant certification (HTL, ASCP), and experience in a clinical histology lab. Preferred qualifications include additional experience, immunohistochemistry certification, and familiarity with laboratory equipment and data management.
